CHD-UCD Road Bridge and River Crossing Engineering 2019 Opening ceremony Successfully Held

On the morning of October 14, Chang’an University-University of Dublin Road Bridge and River Crossing Engineering opening ceremony was held in the Sino-foreign Cooperative Education Base, on the fifth floor of Hongyuan Teaching Building, Weishui Campus., Professor Zhao Xiangmo, Vice President of Chang’an University, Professor Paul Fanning,Dean of International College ofUCD, Associate Professor Shane Donohue, Director of UCD-CHD Cooperative Education Program ofUCD, Assistant Professor Daniel McCur, School of Civil Engineering of UCD, responsible people of Office of Teaching Affairs,Office of International Cooperation and School of Highway Engineering of CHD and the representatives of the teachers of the Sino-foreign cooperative education project attended the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Wang Hainian, deputy director of School of Highway Engineering.

 

Vice President Zhao Xiangmo delivered a speech.He pointed out, in view of the rapid development of China’s highway transportation infrastructure construction, targeting major national strategic needs such as the “Belt and Road” Initiative and the “Traffic Power” strategy, taking advantages ofCHD’s Road Bridge and River Crossing Engineering Major and CDU’s advanced concept of running higher education, our university had been approved by the Ministry of Education to set up a Road Bridge and Cross-River Major Sino-foreign Cooperative Education Project, aiming to develop students into versatile, innovative technical and managerial talents with international vision, complex engineering problem solving ability and global competence in the field of new internationalized transportation engineering. Since its first enrollment in 2018, Sino-foreign cooperative education had received wide attention from all walks of life. Our university has also received great support. While continuously promoting teaching management, our university had carried out various activities such as Irish Culture Week, Immersion Summer Camp and summer overseas study to improve students’ English as well as strengthen cultural exchanges among students. Professor Zhao Xiangmo hoped that students could cherish their time in the university, inherit the spirit of CHD motto, remain ambitious, commit themselves to great innovation, pursue the great realm, and strive to grow into the industry leaders and the country’s pillars.

Dean Aul Fanning expressed his warm welcome to the arrival of the 2019 freshmen. The Sino-foreign Cooperative Education Project had been running for one year, and had carried out many exchanges and exchanges of activities, and steadily promoted the development of cooperative education projects. Dean Paul Fanning also introduced the basic university environment and teaching resources of UDC and encouraged all students to come to Dublin for short-term visits and exchanges. After the speech, President Paul Fanning presided over the Scarf Awarding Ceremony and officially welcomed the 2019 freshman to become a member of UDC.

On behalf of the 2019 freshmen, Mr. Wang Yiqi expressed his joy to become a student benefiting from the CHD-UCD Sino-foreign Cooperative Education Project. He said that the 2019 freshmen would cherish the university time and lay a solid foundation for life.

 

In the afternoon, Associate Professor Shane Donohue, Director of the University of Dublin Cooperative Education Program, and Daniel McCrum, Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering of UCD organized a wonderful bridge model for the new students.

 

Bridge Model Building Competition

 

CHD-UCD Road Bridge and River Crossing Chinese-foreign cooperative education program adopts the “4+0” training mode. After enrolling, students enroll in both schools at the same time, accepting bilingual and full English courses conducted by the two universities’ teachers. Graduates who meet the requirements will be awarded a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Chang’an University and a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from the University of Dublin, Ireland.
