On the afternoon of May 21st, Academician of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Academician of the National Academy of Construction Sciences, and Professor of Arizona State University Samuel Ariaratnam was invited to visit our university. Vice President Wang Jianwei met with the visitors in the VIP room of the Academic Exchange Center. Vice President Wang Jianwei welcomed the visit of Academician Samuel Ariaratnam and congratulated Academician Samuel Ariaratnam on his recent appointment as a member of the National Academy of Construction Sciences. He briefed Academician Samuel Ariaratnam on the basic situation of the university and highlighted the international cooperation in the field of engineering management. He pointed out that the university has been committed to international development for many years, constantly exerting its own characteristics, and has cultivated a large number of high-level export-oriented professional and technical personnel and industry management talents for the transportation field. The school research team is responsible for or deeply involved in the construction of many national infrastructures. Major engineering construction projects in the field have also played an important role. He said that Academician Samuel Ariaratnam is an internationally renowned expert in the field of engineering management. His academic achievements are profound and he has achieved outstanding achievements in the industry. He hopes that the visit of the academician Samuel Ariaratnam will further promote the cooperation and exchanges between the two parties in related fields.

Samuel Ariaratnam is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, a member of the National Academy of Construction Sciences, and a professor at Arizona State University. He is mainly engaged in the research of non-excavation engineering. His research on non-excavation horizontal directional crossing engineering technology and pipeline repair technology is at the international advanced level. He is currently the Chairman of the American Society of Civil Engineers Underground Construction Committee, the National Science Foundation Specialist, the Canadian National Science and Engineering Research Committee, and more than 10 internationally renowned journal editors or editors. He has hosted more than 10 major scientific research projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the US Environmental Protection Agency. He has won many awards such as the John O.Bickel Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers (Bickel Award) and the year of non-excavation technology. He has published more than 200 high-level academic papers, published 7 monographs, and won several international patents.
