On September 30th 2017, ProfessorDouglas J. Goering, dean of Faculty of Engineering of University of Alaska at Fairbanks, visited Chang’an University. Vice President Zhao Junhai welcomed the guest at the Academic Exchange Center, accompanied by heads of the International Office, School of Highway.

Vice President Zhao Junhai extended his warm welcome to the arrival of Professor Douglas J. Goering and briefly introduced the college from the perspectives of school size, characteristic of subjects, and cultivation of talents. Also, he introduced international exchanges in detail. He believed that internationalization would be the main strategy of Chang’an University and the university had been paying attention to cooperation and exchange with distinguished foreign university. The visit of Professor Douglas J. Goerin could be regarded as a great opportunity to enhance understanding and to increase mutual trust of Chang’an University and University of Alaska at Fairbanks, which would be able to set a firm grounding for multi-field cooperation between two universities.

Professor Douglas J. Goering expressed his appreciation for the reception.He also briefly introduced recent development of University of Alaska at Fairbanks,and Faculty of Engineering of the university. Then he highly endorsed Vice President Zhao's idea about internationalization. He thought that there are many resemblances on major setup between two universities. Construction and curing of highway on perennial frozen soil, in particular, could be a great potential for further development and cooperation. He hope that this visit would be a motivator to enhance cooperation on research between two universities, which could also increase communication between two universities’ teachers and students. He also hoped that the two universities could further cooperation in more fields and promote closer collaborations
